Do u take you're dog off the leash at the park?

And if so why do u do that . I dont agree with people taking their dogs off at the park. I have a dog and he only goes off in the garden or in the field. I feel that it isnt safe for dogs to be let off around children .. And parks are not solely designed for dogs are they? So why do people let their dogs run riot in them ?

Have a great evening btw all X

No way. I don't trust other people and especially other dogs. It has been my experience that many people have no control of their dogs yet still bring them to dog parks. I believe you should have a well behaved dog before rewarding them by bringing them to a dog park. Dog parks should not be used for exercise, they should be used as a reward... you showing affection.

My dogs will come when called in ANY situation. I have trained them using the Really Reliable Recall... it doesn't matter the circumstance... they will always come running back to me when called the very first time.

I also do not go to dog parks because I don't know the medical/vaccine history of all the dogs in the park. I do however invite doggie friends over to my house. I have a very large yard with a 7ft privacy fence (large breeds can easily clear a 5 footer, sometimes 6!).

Again, this is just my personal opinion and experiences.
Reply:yes, my dog's a border collie and she needs lots of space to run, she'll feel really restricted if she's on the chain all the time when she's out. she is really obedient so when there're ppl or dogs around, all i have to do is give a really loud whistle, and she'll run back to me.
Reply:(A) I personally don't take my Poodles to any "dog park" since it would seem to be a place rife with canine diseases. If I do happen to be travelling %26amp; have to take them to a park to take care of business I have to let them off lead or they won't go potty! %26amp; yes, I do clean up after them, before I get attacked by some of the idiots that visit this site.
Reply:well my dog i let her off at any where

and she follows me and i dont have to make her come with her or tug her or anything

shes very trained and never bothers other dogs
Reply:You must not have a Lab. =) We let our Lab off whenever there's no one else at the park, or when we know the other people or dogs there and know they're okay with it. Luckily, the park's two short blocks away from our house, and we've pretty much figured out the times when no one else would be there to be bothered. Our Lab loves nothing more than chasing 100 feet after a ball, or exploring the hillside, or finding critters and fun things to smell in the bushes. He's well-trained and absolutely adores being able to roam around off-leash at the park. So I'm okay with it, under certain circumstances. An added perk is that sometimes kids playing on the playground equipment at the top of the park (it's a very loooong park) will come down and ask if he can play with them, and they always have a blast. He's now beloved by about 15 kids in the neighborhood who love playing with the "big black dog."
Reply:I don't for my dog because she is a maniac once the leash comes off, so is she. Plus she is twice my speed. But if your dog can behave well especially around other dogs and their owners. It's okay. Let it have fun if it behaves.
Reply:like a dog park? yes

public parks? no
Reply:I don't because even though my dogs are well-socialized and excellent around people of all ages, I recognize that it's not fair to other people who are trying to enjoy the park. They don't know whether a strange dog running loose is going to be friendly or not and particularly if they're already scared of dogs, it's going to make them uncomfortable. That's not how I want my dogs to meet new people.
Reply:We're lucky to have plenty of dog parks here where dogs can run and play off the leash - My dog has been going since he was 6 months old (now 2 1/2) and has never been sick and neither has any other dog there been seriously sick that I know of - we are a tight group of people that visit while the dogs are playing so I'm sure I would have heard - even if my dog were to pick up a doggie cold - I wouldn't trade his pure fun just to avoid it -

in regards to public places - there is a law so leash up
Reply:the only time a I take my little girl off the leash is when we are leaving the park and getting into my truck.
