Dear God, the buck stops here! Questions for the Almighty (see details)?

God, You made Satan. You've watched Satan since You created him. In fact, You knew what he was going to do before You made him. That means everything Satan has done is part of Your design for him, which makes You responsible for all his mischief. So why do You deny any responsibility for evil in the world when You knowingly created Evil Incarnate?

And God, while I have You on the line, what's with blaming humanity for those going to Hell? You wrote those rules. You created humanity with all its flaws? You knew before You made the universe that putting Adam, Eve, the Tree, and the Serpent in the same garden was going to lead to a lot of suffering for the rest of humanity? That makes -You- responsible for all that suffering. We don't put loaded pistols on coffee tables where little hands can get a hold of them, so what were You thinking when You put all of this together? That You'd get off blameless for the mess You've made?

The buck has to stop somewhere. Who will You pass it to.

Dear God, the buck stops here! Questions for the Almighty (see details)?
    ooh, i know.

read isaiah 45:7 you may be surprised that God is not passing the buck as you say . . .

I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.

You will also find Exodus 9:16 very interesting. God is speaking to Pharoah thru Moses

And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared thoughout all the earth.

I think God has taken the blame for quite a bit, you just need to look at the Bible and find the truth.

Oh and according to the Bible the professor is correct. Darkness does exist and God takes the credit for making it.
Reply:Bobkgin, have you ever heard your child ranting that you are just not fair? Has s/he ever, in anger- raged at length at what you have said, the demands you have made?

One way to look at God is the parent/child model and in that model, it is acceptable to rage and scream "No fair" but the parent perspective is quite different from the child's perspective. If your child has ever said you were unfair or that s/he hated you (both of these are very normal statements in healthy typically developing children) then you may choose to explain yourself better or you may take the road of not explaining yourself either because your reasons for your actions are not something s/he would understand or because you don't want to pander to that level of disrespect, choosing instead to talk later when emotions settle down.

One really nice thing about the ranting, raging at God thing (if you are one who believes) is that you realize that you are loved unconditionally and that you have no reason to fear loss of love.
Reply:God didn't create Satan the evil one, He created Lucifer the beautiful one. Lucifer allowed pride to get the best of him and it cost him everything. Don't let that happen to you.

Sure there are rules, rules no one can follow. So God sent Jesus to bridge that gap.

    Romans 10:10

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Believe and witness, and those other problems will pass away

    Does evil exist?

The university professor challenged his students with this question. Did God create everything that exists? A student bravely replied, "Yes, he did!"

"God created everything? The professor asked.

    "Yes sir", the student replied.

The professor answered, "If God created everything, then God created evil since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are then God is evil". The student became quiet before such an answer. The professor was quite pleased with himself and boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "Can I ask you a question professor?"

    "Of course", replied the professor.

The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?"

"What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?" The students snickered at the young man's question.

The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460 degrees F) is the total absence of heat; all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat."

The student continued, "Professor, does darkness exist?"

The professor responded, "Of course it does."

The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present."

Finally the young man asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?"

Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course as I have already said. We see it every day. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil."

To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not like faith, or love that exist just as does light and heat. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light."

    The professor sat down.
Reply:I'm not God, so I'm not sure if you want an answer from me, but I understand your questioning. I have had those same questions myself. I have often asked God WHY. Why all the suffering in the world? Why does He let it happen? Why does it go on and on? Why did my baby die and why did my dad die? I too have questions for God and He understands that we will have questions. When He created Adam and Eve, he wanted companionship from them. They had their own will and chose what to do. We also as a human race have our own wills and choose what we will do. The evil in this world comes from people choosing to do evil. People choose to hurt other people. I know, some things are still unexplainable and we're not supposed to know everything right now. We are just supposed to trust God. The devil made all this suffering on humanity, not God! God did not want us to suffer like this. He wanted us to run around naked (and not be ashamed or even know anything was wrong with it) and He wanted us to eat fruit and lay around and just talk to Him and be His companions.

The devil came in and ruined all that for the human race. He brought work and all this evil to us. So if you want to be mad at someone, be mad at the devil. God wanted us to live in the garden of Eden forever and be happy. God will make all this better one day. Yes, we have to suffer now. Death and abuse and war and evil are all around, but if you turn to God and ask His forgiveness, He will forgive you of your sins (we all sin) and you can live with Him forever in peace in Heaven, just like He had it planned from the beginning!

You know He sent His Son Jesus to die for you and you can be free of this evil world one day if you choose Him. We have to suffer for a little while, then it will all be better one day. You don't have to choose Hell. We've already been through Hell on earth. I choose God and Heaven! The blame should go to the devil. God never wanted the world to be like this. This is the work of the devil. He's the one to blame. He hates you and wants you to rot in hell with him. Don't be deceived.

It's ok to have questions!!! I do , too. But I choose to put my faith in God and try to do my best to serve Him, and I know one day, I will be with Him forever in Heaven, where there is no more death, pain, suffering, work, bills, sickness....... God bless you!!!

I guess God will not go where He is not invited or welcomed. If you don't want Him in your life or heart, He will not force Himself on you!!! He stands at your hearts door and knocks, but you have to open the door! He will not force Himself on you! You have to believe in Him and invite Him in your life. You don't have to be a robot and do anything you don't want to do. The Lord may be dealing with your heart and if you turn him away again and again, eventually He will stop coming to you. There's a lot of things we have a choice to believe in and accept, but believing in the Almighty God, the One, True God who created the world is the most important choice you will ever make. You have a choice as to whether you go to heaven or hell. It's not just already decided. YOU make the choice.
    Reply:allright..

well, first I must say you're nobody to judge God's actions. As you may well know, he's the almighty and he won't give account for what he does to anybody (he's the man!) ( read the book of Job in the bible). if he can does as he pleases, then he's guilty of nothing.

Second, he did not created evil. He did create free will or choice or whatever you want to call it, because he made us as an image of what he is. Satan, being the morning star( the most beautiful angel created) DECIDED to disobey God and now there's consequences.

God created us " with all our flaws" and weaknesses to show Satan that even the weakest creation made by Him is capable of following rules and live a God-like life just like the creator; with wisdom, love and peace of mind.

Hope I had solved your question

Hope I may had dissolved that akward thought from your mind

    any doubts nephernato@yahoo.com
Reply:Actually Tim, "cold" is not an absence of heat. Temperature in general is just a measure of the kinetic energy in an object, and the word "cold" is used to measure a low amount of kinetic energy, just as the term "darkness" is used to show a low amount of light. And you have not specified which god's absence creates evil: Yahweh, Jehovah, Allah, Vishnu, Zeus, Odin, etc.
Reply:Hey fine next time God makes earth he'll make sure you don't have a choice whether to believe in him or not. Would you like that? NO OF COURSE NOT. GOD CREATED SIN SO YOU WOULD HAVE A CHOICE IF NOT YOUD JUST BE A ROBOT WALKING AROUND NOT HAVING A CHOICE

FINE JUST BE A ROBOT ITS YOUR CHOICE OF COURSE TO HAVE NO CHOICE

GOD WILL NOT CHOOSE FOR YOU IF YOU CHOOSE TO GO TO HELL IT IS 100% YOUR CHOICE. YOU COULD CHOOSE RIGHT NOW UNLESS YOU DONT WANT TO.

NEXT TIME IF THERE WAS NO SIN THEN YOU WOULDNT BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING. FINE BY ME JUST BE A PERSON WITH NO FEELINGS WHO CANT SIN
Reply:I don't think I would be so apt to question God as you do! Exactly we have no choice, it is the way it is! You can chose to do the good or the evil, with the latest question you ask, it is evident what you will do!

So she told me that she designed some design from the Able Sisters and put them in the ground.

And I tryed, and a couple of few weeks, it came out wrong!! So is theres any other cheats rather than doing that kind of thing she told me too??

Or a website maybe that helped me to do a themed town?

I wanted to make a themed town like a magical garden, you know, cos' I bought a crown worth 1,000,000 bells!!

Its not worth it if my town isnt themed!!

    PLZ HELP!

what I would do is go to google and look it up and then you should get your answers I hope I helped.

Does anyone have any experience with Maxus welders (the 140) and how they work?

My Husband does metal fabrication for a custom design studio and we are now starting to do some garden art on a home level. He is obviously used to working with Millermatics and Lincoln welders. We bought a cheap $200 Campbell and Hausefield one just to try out our ideas, our stuff came out GREAT but the welder sucks, it jams every 2 min.

So my husband wants to buy the Hobart 140 (can't afford a Miller or Lincoln rite now) and I am thinking the Maxus 140 because it's $100 less, the specs are the same, same duty cycle same kind of warrenty, but he is insisting on the Hobart. I know that sometimes a name can mean alot, but does anyone else have any ideas??

Anyone used a maxus before, we're looking at the 140 but would like any info!

    Thanks

Does anyone have any experience with Maxus welders (the 140) and how they work?
Finding repair parts for no-name equipment is hard. If you can get by with this, go for it. I am assuming it is a Mig welder since you said it jams. If he is using coated wire, it may be the problem. The coating may not be even or the wheels that feed the wire are slipping. After a period of using coated wire, you will need to replace the tube the wire feeds through, make sure you can obtain this before buying.

Would you rather live in heaven or on a paradise earth?

Adam and Eve lived in the garden of Eden. Jehovah God wanted that Paradise to eventually fill the whole earth. Wouldn't it be better to live on a Paradise earth with no death, pain, old age and suffering or would you want to live in heaven? Keep in mind that heaven was designed for angels who are spirits. We are humans , with bodies, not spirits.

Would you rather live in heaven or on a paradise earth?
Although I was designed to live here on Earth, if God selected me as part of the 144,000 that are going to Heaven, I will honored to take the job! Their position in Heaven is even greater than the angels' itself.

  • What's the worst NHL arena?

The Brendan Byrne/Meadowlands/Continental Airlines/new name this year Arena in New Jersey, with its two levels of seats but only one level of concourse, has been abandoned by the Devils in favor of the new Prudential Center in downtown Newark. With that in mind -- and it was never the worst, but that design was hopelessly flawed -- which team now has the worst home building? Don't just answer based on which teams you don't like. I hate the Rangers but like Madison Square Garden, and I hate the Flyers but think the Whatever Bank It Is This Year Center -- still Wachovia? -- is a great arena, although I liked the Spectrum, too.

    What's the worst NHL arena?
It's a toss up between the Civic Centre in Pittsburgh and the Nassau County Coliseum. Both are old, retched, and too small for today's NHL
Reply:I'm an Islander fan but I have to say that Nassau Coliseum is one of the worst, if not the worst. I'll still go to see my Islanders but I really wish that they were in a better place. I've heard NHL players say that the building is a negative for free agents.

There are plans to re-do the whole area, including a new arena but this is Long Island. Major real estate plans like that have fizzled before. I'll believe it when I see it.

    Gardening Hedges?

I live in FL and I see so many people with these round looking hedges and other cool shapes around their house.. what kind of hedges are these possibly? I heard there is like some sort of topiary where you design people and complex crap like that... NOT what i'm talking about. Basic hedges around the house border

Japanese Boxwood. It's easy to train and trim.
    Reply:the green meat-ball bush?

yes privet, boxwood barberry etc... even yew can be trimmed to weird and unnatural shapes like meatballs and such. In FL you probably could do that to citrus trees too (Just be sure to paint the trunks white so they don't get sunburned). It's not the type of plant so much as the hedge shears being used a couple of times a year to keep the shape.

    Good Luck
Reply:Privet grows fast and green, but needs to be trimmed twice a year to keep it neat.

Boxwood is slower growing, but needs less clipping.

Why not find a hedge you like the look of in your neighborhood and ask the home owners what it is? Gardeners love to talk about their plants.

its not an old enuf key to look like a sleleton key you see the first page on google.i cant upload a picture of it right now, it wont work at the moment. im not a key expert , i dont think its that old to be rare, nor its that new or recently lost to be returned to its owner. i found it just today ,in my front garden in the dirt about 2 ft in the ground when i was helping with the garden , replanting and stuff. i could tell its old because the design , well it really seems like an old fashion house key, or to somethng else. its marked like all other keys with MA 231.

and also it has a small tag attached to it saying 3815 carved in. its almost all rusty except for small spots of yellow in which i cleaned off the dirt with water, rinsing it.anyways what would it be doing in front of my house, it doesnt connect with my house i dont find yet. i cant explain it!its doesnt have curvy teeth, square teeth and its flat. im sure its isnt that old.

Reply:I know the type of key you're talking about. I've seen them in the past. Was there maybe a garden shed out there with a padlock on it? Usually the square teeth is an indicator it came with a less expensive lock. Square teeth were easier and faster to produce back in the - say 1950s. But as long as there have been keys, people have been losing them.

I know how you feel though. It's like finding a nickel from 1958, or something. You know it's not worth anything, but you still hate to let it go. There might be an interesting story behind that key. Unfortunately, we'll never know what it is.

I have a metal detector and was going through the site of a logging camp in Minnesota. Camp existed from 1898 to 1905. Found lots of stuff, including a skeleton key about 5.5 inches long. Again, probably an interesting story, or maybe was just used to lock the food storage at night. I'll never know.

Also, the small spots of yellow might be the remnants of electo-plating. A process that wasn't used until the late 1960s. But I don't know if there were still square teeth at that time, except for the cheapest of very small locks, like on a girl's diary. And your key seems too large for that.

What is Bush say ing here?

this is a direct quote from the whitehouse website from a speech made some weeks ago. What is he referring to? 9/11??

Did Muslims blow up the WTC buildings on 9/11, if George W. Bush admits explosives were used?

    WHITEHOUSE WEBSITE:

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/...

Press Conference of the President, The Rose Garden, 11:15 A.M. EDT

"For example, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed described the design of planned attacks

of buildings inside the U.S. and how operatives were directed to carry them

out. That is valuable information for those of us who have the responsibility

to protect the American people. He told us the operatives had been instructed

to ensure that the explosives went off at a high -- a point that was high

enough to prevent people trapped above from escaping."

you can find it on the whitehouse website

What is Bush say ing here?
It doesn't sound like he's referring specifically at 9/11 at all. K.S. Mohammed described how terror operatives are instructed to blow up a building to maximize casualties. What makes you think he's talking about -those- buildings and -those- operatives?

    Why are we here?

What is the purpose of humans in the scheme of Intelligent Design? If God merely wanted people to worship Him, he could have hard-wired that into the design at the time of creation. Instead, we are given "free-will," but punished if we stray from the path He has chosen. I don't get it... really.

I'm not trying to be rude or to downplay anyone's beliefs, I just don't understand the purpose of designing faulty humans, then blaming them for making mistakes that an omnipotent being should know full well they will make!

You can't tell me that God, who knows all, didn't know that Eve would be tempted and would tempt Adam. And if He did know, why put them through that when He need only have set them outside the Garden in the first place. Was He fulfilling some need to justify His decision?

What kind of craftsman does not correct obvious flaws in the design phase, but instead markets a flawed product?

    Why are we here?

Reply:Some people ask, “Why did God make man with the ability to sin?”

Well, God had only two choices: make man with free moral agency or make man without free moral agency. And God decided not to make man a puppet or robot; we have the ability to choose and make decisions, either right or wrong. God could have forced man to love and obey Him, but it is His love and goodness that caused Him to create man with free-choice, with the ability to choose sin and reject Him if they want to. Because this is true, when man chooses to love God and obey Him, it has a real and deep significance. Forced love is not true love; it’s not genuine.

As David Lipe has said, “To bring into existence a being who would love and obey God, Jehovah also had to give man the freedom to hate and disobey Him. God wants man to love and obey Him as a result of free choice.”

Oh... You you were expecting an answer more theologically philosophical...
Reply:Well if we weren't created with free-will how would we enjoy life the way we wanted. In the beginning God created Adam and Eve to live forever. His purpose for them was to fill the earth and become many (Genesis 1:28). But an angel who wanted to be like god (Satan) wanted everyone to worship him.

So an issue was raised. Satan challenged GOD (Jehovah-Ps.83:18) that more people would want to serve him rather than God. Since Jehovah is a just god he didn't want to kill Satan because if you think about it there are angels in heaven witnessing this and the might start to think well maybe Satan was right since Jehovah just killed him without having a chance to prove him wrong.

So right now that challenge is still in effect. So since Satan is trying to prove Jehovah wrong where living in his world(since Adam an Eve were cast out of the Garden of Eden), not the kind of world God originally intended us to live on. 1 John 5:19-the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one. So Jehovah is giving Satan a certain amount of time for him to try to prove him wrong.(Satan thinks all persons on earth will serve him rather than God)

Now we're awaiting the time when Satan will obviously be the one that's wrong, and the one that will be cut off.

  • Need help with English homework! Due tomorrow!?

I have 2-3 paragraphs due tomorrow for English homework. I already emailed my teacher asking her questions about it and everything but she will most likely not email back. Anyways, my classmates and I are doing this Park Project thing where you design you own park and there is three people in my group we do different things in our classes. Like for Math we made the roughdraft of it and in History we made the final draft on posterboard. And now in English we are writing an essay about it. :(. There is three topics to write about and the other two people in my group took the best ones. I am stuck with the plants topic. I have to write about if my elements are ecologically and environmentally friendly. But my SS teacher was explaining about like differents kinds of plants but me and my group only put bush, tree, garden. How do I write the essay? I dont get the question! NEED HELP HERE! PLZ!

Need help with English homework! Due tomorrow!?
Parks are wonderful places. When you hear the word "park" you most likely see in your mind a place that is green with grass, plants, flowers, bushes, and trees. Not only do these elements make the park a friendly place for humans and pets alike, but they help the enviroment.

The park will be sodded with tall fescue, a grass commonly used on athletic fields, to improve its durability. This grass is hardy and requires minimum maintenance. It is able to survive droughts as well as subzero temperatures due to its extremely dense root matting. Because of the dense root matting, weeds such as the common dandelion, have a difficult time coexisting with it. This makes the neighbors surrounding the park happy.

One of the shrubs we have chosen is Viburnum, which has berries that aren't only attractive, but attract a variety of birds as well. For the nose we have planned groups of lilacs in a variety of colors. Honeysuckle is another shrub that will be planted in landscaped groups. Both honeysuckle and lilacs will attract butterflies. The ground cover under the shrubs will be cedar chips which is not only colorful, but will retain moisture for the shrubs as well as prevent unwanted growth of weeds.

In the groupings we also plan clusters of ornamental grasses and flowers in season.

It has been decided to plant several aspen trees in the park not only for their beauty, but to delight the ear with their rattling sound when the wind blows through their leaves. In addition to the aspens, there will be several birches and my favorite oaks. The oaks will be attractive to small wildlife because of the acorns. The trees will provide shade, absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen.

We will also plant a trio of Scotch pine trees as it is the most commonly chosen tree for a Christmas tree. Whether the city decides to decorate it or not is their decision, but they will be there if they decide to do so.
Reply:Why not go to an online plant and flower site and see what they have? www.Veseys.com is a Canadian site. It also explains what some of the features of their flowers are.

You can also address if these are native plants (found only in North America or wherever you happen to be) and whether they are practical for other reasons (attract butterflies, other insects).
Reply:You are selling your topic short. You have the best topic. If you were to design a park consider

how many shade trees you would have. Trees

produce oxygen. Would you plant trees that bloom twice a year and cause allergies? Same with the flora and the fawna. Consider who would use your park. Would you plant bushes and flowers that could be harmful if ingested? Check out www.nationalgeographic.com for info on plants. Do some research on different types and

    the benefits.
Reply:OK YOUR WRITING ABOUT THE PLANTS.. SO YEA MENTION THE BUSH, TREE, AND SO ON. THEN GRAB THE MOST COMMON FOWER YOU COULD FIND THEIR AND GRADUALLY TALK ABOUT IT.. THEN WRITE ABOUT HOW THE WORLD WOULD BE A LITTLE BETTER IF WE TOOK CARE OF OUR ENVIROMENT ... AFTER ENDING- WHAT WE CAN DO TO HELP ENVIROMENT MENTION THE FLOWER HELP PLANTING! GOOD LUCK!! :)
Reply:This sounds like the lamest assignment ever. Your teacher wants specific types of bushes, trees, and flowers. Say you want to fill the park with big trees like oak or maple because they are pleasant to look at and sit under. Then say you want miles and miles of poison ivy so kids will learn the important lesson that when the sign says don't play on the grass, you shouldn't play on the grass.

Why did god not create green humans?

why did god not create humans whith the capability of photosynthesis? We could just sit in the garden, enjoy the sun and not worry where the next meal is coming from. Wouldn't that have eliminated many wars in our history? Wouldn't green humans have been a more intelligent design than the present version?

Why did god not create green humans?
The short answer is: then we'd have to sit around all day, just basking in the sun.

Letting other creatures gather up that energy, and then eating THEM, is much more efficient.
Reply:That would have made the world a much better place. Sieges could only happen on cloudy days.
Reply:I have thought about this too. If we were green like plants and trees able to gather energy through photosynthesis and eliminate our wastes as vapor or carbon dioxide, wouldn't that be great? no more grocery grocery shopping, menu planning, cooking, no more dumping sewage in the oceans, this planet would be a totally different world.
Reply:Because evolution is what created us. And besides, only plants have photosynthesis. It's been billions of years since plant and animals have split off of the evolutionary tree. Even if humans had photosynthesis, it wouldn't give us the energy needed to move around much. In fact, we would pretty much have to sit still all of the time so that we wouldn't use up our energy. Also, we would be breathing in carbon dioxide and breathing out oxygen through the process of photosynthesis, instead of breathing in oxygen and breathing out carbon dioxide which is what animals do. In other words, we would have to be a plant to do what you are saying.

I'd be ever so grateful to anyone who answers!I'm trying to figure out how many paving slabs i need for my patio.

The area I'm paving is 26 m2. My problem is..I wanna do a random design with 3 size slabs. Slab sizes are 600x600mm , 300x600mm and 300x300mm. The design I want is like http://www.bradstone.com/garden/advice/l... .

Could anyone,if not too busy, do me the huge favour or working out how many of each slabs I need for that design for my patio..PLEASE!!!

thanks to everyone who answers.much appreciated!

OK guys don't mean to be a pain but I need paving help..Anyone good at maths?
Simple. It tells you in the specs that the numbers needed are as follows 300x300 is 12; 300x600 is 12; and 600x600 is 7. So this ratio will hold in your completed area, no matter how large. In other words, in any given area you will have 12x of D, 12x of E, and 7x of F.

It also tells you that in an area of 2450mm on a side you will have 12 of D, 12 of E, and 7 of F. You will still have to make some cuts because the basic layout of the three pieces is not a rectangle, but you can save the cut pieces to use along the edge somewhere else.

So using 2450x2450 as a unit square, you can figure out how many of each you will need. If your patio is 2450x2450mm, you will need 12 of D, 12 of E and 7 of F. If your patio is 10 times the area of 2450x2450, you will need 120 of D, 120 of E, and 70 of F. Just proportion it out based on the total area of the space you want to do, and add on about 15% for waste and trim. If you do this right your waste can actually be almost zero, but it takes planning.

To minimize waste, you can make the completed size of your patio some even ratio of width to depth, like 3x4, 4x8, 5x12, and not 2.5x 4.6 or that sort of thing.
Reply:At first glance the pattern may look random, but if you study the design carefully you will see that there is a specific design which is expandable in all directions. For example the top left slab is actually the large square cut in half and likewise on all sides the pattern can be extended.
Reply:There is a problem with the question you're asking.

The design is for approx. 24.5M^2. It's not adjustable as it is a random design.

What you might consider is a 75cm border. Maybe using a different stone.

If you can get pictures of the stone you want to use, then you can use your paint program and try different stones as a border and see if you like any of them.
Reply:The example you posted is 2450 mm, converts to 2.45 m.

    10 small

    11 medium

    7 large

Your area is roughly 2.4 times the size of the example.

    24 small

    26 medium

    16 large

very rough estimate of the material you'll need.
Reply:you need to be more specific, it may be 26m squared, by the lenght and the width has a baring on your design, and you need an extra 10% of slabs too for breakages etc.

Urgent!I'm doing a land law assignment but I'm finding it difficult &confusing wondering if anybody can help?

A's in financial difficulties %26amp; sells off part of his garden to B. In the conveyance B covenants for himself %26amp; his successors in title that he'll build %26amp; maintain a garden wall in between A's %26amp; B's.B also covenants that he'll not build any building on his part above 5m in height.B doesn't in fact build the garden wall but sells the land to C. C now intends to build a substantial private house on it. Because of the height restriction, C’s architect designs the proposed house with basement floor inc. underground car parking. The construction of the house will therefore involve considerable excavation work %26amp; special foundations. Due to the configuration of the land, the proposed house will be within 3m of the conservatory which forms part of A's. A has learnt about C’s plans and is opposed to them. Can A enforce the covenant to 1)build %26amp; maintain a garden wall between the 2 properties %26amp; 2)height restriction? reasons?

Urgent!I'm doing a land law assignment but I'm finding it difficult %26amp;confusing wondering if anybody can help?
It is confusing so don't feel bad about it. This is from my memory, and I don't have my notes here, but I did do ok in it!

The grantee's rights under a covenant are called the “benefit” of the covenant, while the grantor's duties are called the “burden.”

So A has the benefit, and C the burdens.

The rules for the running of the burden and the benefit are different. Here, the benefit/burden is appertenant (attached to the land, not remote), becasue both benefits are for the benefit of A's estate. For the burden to run, there must be intent that the it should run, privity, notice, and it must touch and concern the land. We need not discuss if the benifit runs.

    With reguards to the wall:

“Affirmative covenants” call for the covenantor to do some act, such as paying money, supplying goods or services, or performing some other act, either on or off the land owned by the covenantor.

    1. There was intent that the burden would runs because B covenanted for himself and his successors.

    2. There is privity between A and C because A and B were in privity in the orginal grant and C is B's sucsessor in interest.

    3. Notice. I'm pretty sure C has to be on notice....was the deed recorded? Was C on notice? Was the covenant in C's deed? And interesting issue.

    4. Here's another interesting issue: Does building the wall touch and concern the land? The rule is that it does, if it is for the benefit of the appertnent estate, otherwise, it's personal. Does the wall help out the occupier of A's land. Yes!

Therefore, I think A can enfore it (but check up on notice).

WIth regards to the height restriction:

“Negative covenants” call for the covenantor to refrain from doing some act.

    1. Intent. You say that B covenants, not that B convenanted foe his successors. C will content that there was no INTENT for it to run. However, it will probally be read that that was the intent.

    2. Privity: As Above.

    3. Notice: As Above.

    4. Touch and Concern? Yes! There is NO common law right for air and light, but there can be an express convenant. C might claim that the benefit does not serve A any more, but building so close to the conservatory would hurt A, by blocking his light.

    Therefore A can enforce it.

Just my ideas and what I could remember. Good luck.

  • Does anyone know of a PC program thats used to help with designs?

my sister and her husband are interested in doing up there house and have heard that there is a PC program that helps with both interier (?sp?) and landscaping, it does that before and after thing.

so you upload a photo or pick a design and then add it and you can add things (like lights) and change things (like wallpaper colour) and it shows you what it would look like with the rest of the house/garden (seperate programs maybe)

I'm sorry i know i'm not describing it well and i also know i can't spell sorry again.

    please help

    thanks

Does anyone know of a PC program thats used to help with designs?
Dulux's "My Colour" is what you're after! We got it when were painting out house, bought it retail from Bunnings.

Looks like they've upgraded it since i used it, you can use it online by the looks of it:

I had a liitle look at it then, looks like it would suit you perfectly! You take your own photo, then modify it and change you wall colour, light etc...

    Try it out, anyway.

    Alternative to ugly wind-turbines?

I would love to have a wind turbine in my garden, to generate electricity but I am sure most of you will do to, and the reason you don't have it (and would agree with me) - everything they sell nowadays is big and ugly, especially if your garden is small and you are not allowed to install anything big on your roof.

I wonder why they don't make wind turbines in the shape of anemometer - they would not take too much place, and would look good anywhere.

Or make a sleek wind turbine based on the design of those advertising banners they put outside of the stores- they spin like crazy in the wind.

Do you know any reasons why they don't exist?

    Alternative to ugly wind-turbines?
They do exist but if you want a decent power output you need to tap into a much bigger airflow than those little toys do. You can get choice of small wind turbines mostly sold for charging batteries on boats which are not ugly.

Reply:The problem is that if you want to get any useful efficiency out of a wind turbine, it has to be 30 feet or more above ground.

And that makes them "ugly", and in some cases you even need a planning permission by your local authorities.

Push grows for Diana statue in Paris

Some fans say permanent memorial should be erected in city of her death

    The Associated Press

    Updated: 6:43 a.m. PT Aug 30, 2007

PARIS - At a golden statue of a flickering flame, fans of Princess Diana pay homage to her in Paris, leaving behind poems and prayers even now, 10 years after she died nearby.

A French child’s collage proclaims her “unforgettable.” An Italian fan scrawls, “I still love you.”

But contrary to popular belief, the statue wasn’t built for Diana; it was merely appropriated by her fans.

With the 10th anniversary of her death on Friday, a few fans say it’s time she had a Paris monument in her honor — something permanent, unlike the memorabilia swept away regularly by trash collectors — and they have begun a fundraising drive.

    ‘Shocking and flagrant’

Dominique de Fontenay says he thinks about Diana every day as he passes through the Pont d’Alma traffic tunnel where she died in a car crash, and he is always struck by the lack of a monument.

“That seems shocking and flagrant, given Diana’s notoriety and the love that most people all over the world felt for her,” said de Fontenay, a 34-year-old event planner who conceived the project.

De Fontenay teamed up with a jeweler and sculptor, Xavier de Fraissinette, who sketched out ideas for a bronze statue of a suit-clad Diana reaching out to a small child holding a bouquet.

“The hardest thing will be getting her expression, her smile, her face right,” said de Fraissinette, who designed a sculpture for the Lyon, France, meeting of the Group of Seven industrialized nations in 1996. “It must not be a mortuary monument, she must be natural.”

    Raising money, slowly

After a few mentions in the local press, about 150 people have donated a total of $9,500, the two said. Building the statue will require $240,000, said de Fontenay, a Diana fan who remembers joining up with crowds to mourn the princess after the Aug. 31, 1997, crash that killed her, her boyfriend Dodi Fayed and their chauffeur, Henri Paul.

“I think everyone on the planet who had a heart was depressed that day, or at least filled with a great sadness,” said de Fontenay, who named his cat “Princess” in Diana’s honor.

The plans by de Fontenay and de Fraissinette are in the early stages and do not have approval from Paris City Hall, where the press office said officials were not aware of their campaign. The process could be long, and they will need approval from the city council.

    De facto memorial

For now, the torch statue near the traffic tunnel remains the de facto memorial. A replica of the Statue of Liberty’s torch, it was donated in 1987 by the International Herald Tribune newspaper as a symbol of French-American friendship.

Ten years later, mourners turned the torch into a Diana shrine, which seemed fitting because Elton John sang “Candle in the Wind” at her funeral in London’s Westminster Abbey.

On any given afternoon, dozens of tourists crowd around the torch, snapping pictures and leaving behind cellophane-wrapped roses. After posing for a snapshot, 29-year-old Arijit Ray of London said he wished de Fontenay and de Fraissinette luck.

“There should be a statue,” he said.

De Fontenay already has a spot picked out — a grassy garden right above the tunnel where the crash took place.

“It’s all ready. There are flowers. All that’s missing is Diana,” he said.

So basically, the article is talking about this torch statue in France near where Diana died, that people usually associate with her and go to to pay tribute to her. However its really "a replica of the Statue of Liberty’s torch, [which was] was donated in 1987 by the International Herald Tribune newspaper as a symbol of French-American friendship." Apparently people confuse it to be hers because of Elton John's tribute to her, the song "candle in the wind".

So there are a bunch of people, led by this man, Dominique de Fontenay, who want to pay artist Xavier de Fraissinettea lot of money ($240,000) to build a statue of Diana reaching out to a child with a bouquet of flowers, so people can really have a place to go and honor her life. So far, about 150 people have raised $9,500, but want more money.

Reply:What's not to understand? A lot of people still remember her fondly, and she died in their country, so they want a monument.

    Senior Citizen Self-Designed Retirement Home?

If you had the chance to help design a new group home for the over-50 set, with minimal medical, but still a safe place, what would you like to add to the house? Assuming we have a nice kitchen and other basics, for our age group, what would be great?

Garage for you guys to do your car work in? Small dance floor for parties? How about a garden (ok, that's for me!) And a sun roof, definately eco-friendly too.

um, keep it clean - we don't want the kids to see!

    Senior Citizen Self-Designed Retirement Home?
hmmm, First off, attention to details would be important to me. Are the plumbing fixtures easy to use, door knobs easy to operate. Are the halls and walkways wide and free from clutter? Are there adequate handrails? Are the storage spaces easy to reach? Are smoke, fire, and carbon monoxide detectors well placed and operational? Are the floors level, and free of hazards like uneven surfaces or edges of rugs? Is it easy to maneuver in the bathrooms?

I love your idea for a garden; how about adding some garden furniture and places to hangout in the garden-garden paths, tables and chairs, lights, maybe even a gazebo or covered porch/patio.

Internet access; maybe a router so several people could do email or surf the internet at once.

A combination game room, library, music room. A room with tables and chairs, where people could congregate to play games, share books and magazines, and maybe sing or play musical instruments or listen to cds.

A combination crafting and workshop space. Include benches, tables, cabinets, easals, and maybe even display shelves. Good overhead and task lighting.

Your ideas seem like fun, good luck!

A garden area that was body friendly- raised beds of varying heights that can be worked in by both the standing and seated.

A swimming pool that is heated and a jacuzzi that is accessible.

An exercise room with machines and aerobics classes.

Apartments with real kitchens for those that enjoy baking or cooking, and others with service kitchens for small meals or snacks and a common dining area for when you don't want to cook!

Cleaning and laundry service should be included, a barber shop/beauty parlor on the premises and a small convenience shop that stocks the basic necessities.

Well, since I am dreaming, throw in a massage therapist on site, transportation to the local library that has computer classes, as well as cable tv and internet hookup in each apartment!

And of course the building is wheelchair accessible, has 24 hour security at the front desk and guest apartments that can be reserved when family comes to visit!

Is it normal to have 'copy-cat' in-laws??

I love my best friend to death, but sometimes I think she is a floor-mat to her mother-in-law. When her and her husband moved into their new house, her mother-in-law also wanted a new house (so she got one, bigger and better). When my friend decided to color her hair, her mother-in-law also colored her hair. When my friend decided she wanted to redo the landscaping 'asian' style and was looking over new designs, her mother-in-law beat her to it and now it's her mother-in-law with the beautiful Japanese garden. My friend has told me that this bothers her, but she doesn't think it's worth causing trouble. I know that to copy someone is the best form of flattery...but I think this is a bit much. Any advice??

Is it normal to have 'copy-cat' in-laws??
    Yeah its normal to have copy-cat in-laws. I have some myself. The mother-in-law probably wants to be the center of attention in the family. She wants everyone to envy her instead of her daughter-in-law. When your friend wants to do something new, she should keep it to herself until she actually does it. That way her mother-in-law doesnt know about it and does it first. Get it?Or maybe not......?. ::}
Reply:Well talking it out wont work. Her mother in law will just say something sweet and go behind her back and do it anyway so...

have your friend think of something she always wanted that her mother in law could never think of. BUT SHE MUST NOT TELL ANYONE. not her husband, sibblings, brothers and sisters in law, friends, or people who know the mother.

After it is done dont let the mom find out until she comes over. then have your friend say it was there for months or something. If the mother in law thinks its old she wont want it.

OR!!!!! if you want to be divious, you and your friend go teepee her mother in law's house. Its childish but OH SO SATISFING
Reply:It is really your friends business and not yours, and I think that she is handling the situation in the best was possible.
Reply:I think your friend is doing the right thing. It would get a little old, but she can't tell her to stop. That might hurt her feelings, and it is a form of flattery. It's not like she's around her mother-in-law 24/7, so it shouldn't become a big deal.

What are the top Beginner books for Gardening..with all the Basics?

I would like to know a few of the best beginner gardening books available(new ones too), that completely help the new %26amp; first-time gardener. From starting a garden, to knowing exactly how much topsoil and other fertilizer bags, peat moss - whatever, is needed. I have a design, it's an 8' x 8' circle, and I would love to know how deep is a basic general amount to add the soil, %26amp; how much. Also, what I need to buy in bags to get my soil all prepared. Can someone please help me in this area? I want to go as organic as possible for the first year - I realize in future years I will learn more and have more of a compost pile, but basically a small basic garden.

Thanks so much in advance - Starr

What are the top Beginner books for Gardening..with all the Basics?
Depending on where you live, one of the best all around books on gardening is the Sunset Western Garden Book. It's kind of an encyclopedia of every house and garden plant you can grow in the western United States. It also includes lots of specific information about how to prepare gardens, identify and erradicate pests, specific plant requirements (soil type, water, fertilizer, pruning, etc.).

Even though it's specific to the western US, it would be applicable to a lot of other parts of the country, since the western US has such a wide variety of climates.
Reply:Hello angelique, The best all time beginner garden book is: "Garden Primer" by Barbara Damrosch! I call it "my garden bible"... You look up the plant you are interested in and all the info. you need is right there for the plant, it is sooooooo easy to read and understand. Good Luck gardening! AmberPat
Reply:I don't think you need a "basic beginner" book as much as you need a book about growing plants in your particular region/climate.

Gardening in Maine is totally different than gardening in California. You need to know what plants grow well with your temp, soil, etc.

FYI, I don't really use fertilizer and topsoil at all in my garden. Just dug/tilled an area of the yard, laid down a bunch of organic compost, planted plants that work well with the amount of light/shade and water/drought for that section of the yard, then laid down some mulch. That's how I pretty much got started.

The Collapse of the Twin Towers Part V: Can the Conspiracy Theorists debunk this?

The mechanics of the collapse are really much more simple than conspiracy theorists would like you to believe. The heat expanded the steel in the truss in all directions. As a result they also expanded into the columns. The trusses/floor system, sagged in the middle because the columns were preventing the trusses from expanding in their direction. That led to the bowing of the exterior columns.

Listen to the NIST lead investigator explain the leading hypothesis for the towers collapse.

    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/wtc/sund-fl...

Computer simulation of expanding truss pushing out on a perimeter column and sagging

After the columns bowed, the weight was no longer going straight down. Like taking a straw and bowing it in the middle, it no longer can hold the same weight as it did when it was straight. The building tried to transfer the load to the core columns and massive hat truss on the roof. The weakened core, weakened by fire and impact, couldn't hold the massive weight from tilting. As with the perimeter column, the massive load on the deformed core columns gave way.

Now look at what a REAL Controlled Demolition looks like...

You can hear the explosives clearly over the helicopter engine and rotating blades.

    The NIST and "Pancaking"

The massive weight easily caused a "Pancaking" effect but unlike the original hypothesis, the pancaking didn't cause the collapse. It was a result of the collapse.

    Update:

Conspiracy theorists are taking the above out of context in an effort to mislead readers into thinking the NIST and I are in disagreement. We are not. As I mentioned above, the pancaking happened AFTER the building was on it's way down and therefore NOT part of the NIST investigation. The NIST only studied the collapse until "Global collapse was inevitable". Any conspiracy theorist that tells you the NIST said the building NEVER pancaked is lying. The building didn't pancake CAUSING the collapse but evidence is strong the building pancaked AFTER the collapse was "inevitable".

    What the NIST observed:

Failure of the gusset plate welded to the top of the truss chord was again almost exclusively observed regardless of location. This may be a result of overloading the lower floors as the floors above were "pan-caking".

    NIST NCSTAR 1-3C Sect 3.5.3

Of course this will be labeled a contradiction by conspiracy theorists. As if the NIST can't observe something without studying the behavior of it.

Let me make this really easy for them...

    1) The NIST said, the heat from the fires sagged the trusses which bowed the columns inward CAUSING the collapse. Pancaking did NOT cause the collapse. The evidence I see agrees with this conclusion.

    2) The evidence on the ground strongly indicates, after the collapse began, the building pancaked spreading the debris as we see below. The NIST never studied this so how could we be in disagreement?

I recently E-mailed the NIST to verify this. Here is their response:

NIST did not describe the specific sequence of events after global collapse initiated. The progression of global collapse was induced by the failure of the supporting structure (columns carry vertical loads; floors hold columns together, they do not carry vertical loads). NIST's investigation focused on the factors that led to the initiation of collapse, rather than the sequence of events after the collapse initiated.

    Sincerely,

    WTC Investigation Team

From the NIST report, page xxxvii:

The focus of the Investigation was on the sequence of events from the instant of aircraft impact to the initiation of collapse for each tower. For brevity in this report, this sequence is referred to as the “probable collapse sequence,” although it does not actually include the structural behavior of the tower after the conditions for collapse initiation were reached and collapse became inevitable.

So while they did investigate the squibs issues and other parts of the global collapse like the gusset plates failure, they never studied the "structural behavior" of the global collapse, as they did "the sequence of events from the instant of aircraft impact to the initiation of collapse". And why should they? Every paper which passed peer review by respected scientific journals (The Journal of 911 Studies is not one of them.) on the collapse of the towers calculates the massive weight of the top sections would crush the buildings as seen. There are mathematical calculations which are shown in Bazant's paper (See below) and are peer reviewed. Others have passed similar papers. The idea that these buildings could not fall as they did flies in the face of these facts.

Conspiracy theorists are clearly lying about this in order to paint this site as unreliable. The irony of their claims seem to be what's most reliable in their movement.

    --------------------------------------...

Below we see the top of the south tower fall behind the perimeter columns at an angle. The top falls behind the perimeter columns and on the floors. (This happened at both buildings as this evidenced by these video screen shots of the north tower.) The angle at which it falls pushes the perimeter columns in front of the falling top section outward, giving them distance.

Conspiracy theorists use the original hypothesis - which wasn't created by the government, and which was wrong - to say the NIST can't be trusted, but that's the way all science is. They look at the evidence and create a hypothesis, test the hypothesis against the evidence and if new information comes out, they change the hypothesis accordingly. You would think if the NIST was going to lie, they would just build the lie around the first hypothesis. That they changed it only shows independence. Ironically, Professor Jones has changed his paper numerous times, yet the conspiracy theorists don't cast doubt on whether his paper is correct. Proof of the pancaking effect is the core columns, which can be seen collapsing seconds after the perimeter columns hit the ground.

If the building didn't pancake, what happened to the trusses? Assuming they didn't just fly away it's obvious they fell straight down. More evidence of pancaking is on ground zero.

Note what's left of the core with most of the debris from inside the building around it. This photo was taken in October 3rd so many of the columns were already picked up but the major debris is located closest to the core.

Below is another interesting photo. It shows the perimeter columns laid out as if they simply tilted over. The only explanation is that the floors went straight down and the unsupported perimeter columns pivoted over in large sections.

Below is the Bankers Trust building.

As you can see, the building never caught fire so it was never in any danger of collapse. The evidence points to a combination of unfought fire and damage which brought down the WTC 7. That's what the NIST draft said as well. The Bankers Trust was also constructed differently, with a web column design. The interior columns were not pushed out to the perimeter.

Note the WTC columns laid out as if there were a path to the building. There are no concrete slabs attached to columns.

With the floors pancaking straight down, the perimeter walls were free to lean over in tall sections before breaking off and coming down. That's what gave them distance.

The above photo illustrates just how far the perimeter columns could have gone. If the columns didn't break up as they leaned out they could have made a path to the Hudson river. Reaching Building 7 and the Winter Garden would have been well within reason.

The last piece of evidence is the standing perimeter columns. You can see what's left of the steel plates which hold the floors up. The tremendous weight stripped them off as the floors were on their way down.

As generally accepted by structural engineering and structural mechanics experts (though not by some laymen and fanatics seeking to detect a conspiracy), the failure scenario, broadly proposed by Bazant (2001), and Bazant and Zhou (2002), on the basis of simplified analysis, and supported by very realistic, meticulous and illuminating computer simulations and exhaustive investigations by S. Shyam Sunder's team at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, 2005), may be summarized as follows:

    1. About 60% of the 60 columns of the impacted face of framed-tube (and about 13% of the total of 287 columns) were severed, and many more were significantly deflected. This caused stress redistribution, which significantly increased the load of some columns, near the load capacity for some of them.

    2. Fire insulation was stripped during aircraft impact by flying debris (without that, the towers would likely have survived). In consequence, many structural steel members heated up to 600±C (NIST 2005) (the structural steel used loses about 20% of its yield strength already at 300±C, NIST 2005, and exhibits significant visco-plasticity, or creep, above 450±, especially at high stresses that developed; see e.g. Cottrell 1964, p. 299; the press reports right after 9/11, indicating temperature in excess of 800±C, turned out to be groundless, but Bazant and Zhou's analysis did not depend on that).

    3. Differential thermal expansion, combined with heat-induced viscoplastic deformation, caused the floor trusses to sag. The sagging trusses pulled the perimeter columns inward (by about 1 m, NIST 2005). The bowing of columns served as a huge imperfection inducing multi-story buckling. The lateral deflections of some columns due to aircraft impact and differential thermal expansion also decreased buckling strength.

    4. The combination of six effects

    a) overload of some columns due to initial stress redistribution,

b ) lowering of yield limit and creep,

    c) lateral deflections of many columns due to sagging floor trusses,

    d) weakened lateral support due to reduced in-plane stiffess of sagging floors,

    e) multi-story buckling of some columns (for which the critical load is an order of magnitude less than it is for one-story buckling), and

    f) local plastic buckling of heated column webs finally led to buckling of columns (Fig. 1b). As a result, the upper part of tower fell, with little resistance, through at least one floor height, impacting the lower part of tower. This triggered progressive collapse because the kinetic energy of the falling upper part far exceeded the energy that could be absorbed by limited plastic deformations and fracturing in the lower part of tower. For a detailed account of the collapse, do yourself a favor and READ ALL the NIST FINAL reports. Any conspiracy site which gives you the old preliminary reports are being dishonest. There is incredible detail which mirror the evidence of the event in each of the reports below.

The Collapse of the Twin Towers Part V: Can the Conspiracy Theorists debunk this?
I applaud all the research and work you went to, to try and show people like Rosie O Donnell how this happened. Sad to say, the world has Jim Jones followers that will fall for anything, believe anything, and spread anything. And then there are American haters that are more then happy to spread evil.
Reply:Conspiracy theorists are nothing more than extreme Bush bashers. As a conservative, even I know Bush hasn't got the I.Q. to coordinate such an event.

Not to mention, he was zig-zagging all across the contintent in Air Force 1 at the time trying to figure out what to do.
Reply:Whether or not the US government was involved in the actual 9/11 attack is less relevant than what they did in response. Which was to pursue a long held and carefully detailed Republican agenda of a neverending war on so called 'terrorism' - read our civil liberties. Liberal western democracies all over the world followed suit, beefing up police and defense spending and immigration laws, watering down citizen's rights and the very foundations of liberal democracy - the right to be assumed innocent until proven guilty for example, all in the name of September 11. No matter who was behind it September 11 was a bonanza for governments everywhere interested in gaining more control over their citizens.

The worst insult has been the way it's been framed in terms of a religious war - the forces of evil muslim fundamentalism against enlightened western christianity
Reply:Their hatred of Bush trumps facts and logic. The answer by one above is a cut and paste from another question that was asked. It all comes down to hating Bush.
Reply:Did you ask yourself why did all the so-called "investigators" are ALL appointed by the Bush Administration to "investigate" ? No conflicts of interest there.

Do you remember the Cheney involvement in distorting and covering up global-warming ?

Maybe something will add up in your mind ;)
