Architecture Student: Ground Plane.?

My professor is very well known for his effective methods and lectures for teaching his Design Studios. One of our recent projects was to design a "Room and Garden" model. After we were done building the model, he asked us to build a ground plane in which this model should fit perfectly in. My question is, shouldn't the ground plane come first? I'm there's "meaning for his madness" but I wanted to see what you all thought... Thanks.

Architecture Student: Ground Plane.?
i presume u are still at the conceptual stage of design.....

...my guess u are in your second year of study...anyhow...the essence of Architecture is its subjectivity as opposed to other studies which are more objective....

...so if u see this reversal as his madness...then tat is the idea...to play about with subjectivity and have fun...

...back to your model...i presume that your model is "room" only or with the "garden".....??

back in my 2nd year we did an almost the same thing...we design a room...then we were told to design a garden. So it is a reverse. The idea is to relate the exterior with the interior....conceptually.

We actually had a landscape architect flown in from Australia to give us some ideas.

Hope tat helps.
Reply:Perhaps he wants you to consider the effect of

changes in elevation on your formerly 'flat' plan.

See how it might be improved thereby.
