My cats only drinks out of certain items.. why?

My cats prefer toilet water, water from the faucet (they lick the stream), or water from plastic garden watering containers.. they don't drink out of ceramic or glass, nor out of the specially designed items to give water to cats..

Any idea what? I am thinking that the plastic material gives a taste to the water? and they don't mind tap because it's 'hard' here, has lots of minerals and chlorine, also a certain taste..

any idea?

Perhaps the water from the toilet, faucet and other containers is colder?
Reply:cats are the most finicky of any animal. they like water from these sources because they are fresher and cooler. water that just sits gets warm and stale, and a cats taste buds let them know that. mine drinks from toilet whenever possible, husband freaks and closes lid, he is the one with problem. they make little water dishes for cats that recycle the water, keeps it fresher, but i suggest dont use chemicals in toilet except to clean it, and make sure its rinsed good, that way when she drinks she wont get any,,,,,,,,,just let her have pottie, keep water in dish and change frequently , but let her have pottie water if she wants.
