Math prob. please help?

A rose garden is designed by joining a rectangle and a semicircle, as shown below. The rectangle is 32 long and 26 wide. If the gardener wants to build a fence around the garden, how many feet of fence are required? (Use the value 3.14 for pi , and do not round your answer. Be sure to include the correct unit in your answer.)

Math prob. please help?
There is no figure as you have mentioned. I am therefore considering two possible cases. First one : when the semicircles are on the larger side and the second one when they are on the smaller one.

In the first case when when the semicircles are on the larger sides length of the fencing = 2 (26) + 2 ( the perimeter of the semicircle with radius - 32/2 ie with radius 16)

=%26gt; 52 + 2 ( Pi multiplied by radius of the semicircle)

(Note that length of semi-circumference of a circle is = Pi.radius)

Hence length of the fencing = 52 + 2 Pi . 16

=%26gt; 52 + 32 Pi = 52 + 32 ( 3.14 ) = 152. 48 units.... Answer

(Note that you have not mentioned units of length. If it is in meter then the answer = 152.48 m )

.........................................

In the second case length of the fencing = 2 (32) + 2 ( Pi.13 )

=%26gt; 145.64 m ...................... Answer

P.K.T.
Reply:its either 130.82 (if semi circle is on 26 side)

or 134.24 (if semi circle is on 32 side)
