Scale Drawing?
Hi:
I am a landscaper and designer. You have your exact space and your scale in front of you. Try and visualize the entire area. The first thing you want to do is have an overall plan. I will link you to the plan - prep - plant page. This is a simple method to plan any style garden.
You will want to think about drawing your base plants first such as trees. Consider evergreen shrubs, as they are very popular now. Add some flowers to the defined bed area.
Consider outdoor features such as benches, bird baths and feeders, fountain, gazebo, or a small decorative pond.
I do hand drawn designs for my clients. I will link you to the examples of landscape designs section of my website. Browse through and see if you can get any ideas. I am not an artist, but I try and show the clients the color and shape of each specimen.
Consider the shape of the bed you want with your measurements. Incorporate different shapes within your flower bed. Be a little creative and go ahead and add some trees, shrubs, and herbs to the flower bed. If you are not allowed to do this, consider an annual or perennial garden, or combining annuals and perennials. I will link you to the site map, as this page has everything else that is on the website. Browse through and see if you can find any other information that may help you. Best of luck on your project and have a great day!

Reply:.5 inchs on your ruler will egual an aproximate Scale Size of 2 inches.
So if you plan on drawing a 40' X 28' garden, your drawing would reflect this equation:
.5" = 2"
(X) multiplied by 5 = 2
.5" multipied by (4) =2
so your dimensions should be 10ft by 7 ft on paper
Reply:Once I have the basic layout of the garden on paper ( the dimensions marked and the existing non movable objects) I think about what will the space be used for. Are there animals? Will children use the space? Is this space for entertaining? Is this a private space only. Will there be a vegetable garden? Will there be a flower garden? Do you want fruit tree's or vines? What are your favorite colors or plants? Take everything into account that will be happening in the space. If this is completely fiction then make all this up too. It will help define what should be here. In my opinion design is about meeting the needs of the owner(function) and flow of one area into the next(beauty).
Reply:use books to learn it or go back to the teacher
Reply:Draw 10" X 7" lay out on a paper. ( representing 40X28').
Draw a small sqaure representing house and a path from house to gate. Along path on both sides draw 1" size flower bed(color on entire flower bed). This is simplest one.
