Help Me Pleaseeeeee!?

Carmen hired a landscaper to design a small garden at teh side of her house. the garden will measure 2 m by 3 m andn it will contrain a mixture of perennial plants. the landscaper wants to draw a scale diagram of Carmen's garden on a peice of paper that measures 30 cm by 50 cm.

a) determine a suitable scale for the scale diagram so that it will fit on a piece of paper

b) according to the landscaper, five perennial plants can be planted in each sqaure metre (1m squared) of the garden. if each perennial costs $2.50, what will be the total cost of all the perennials needed to fill the garden?

Help Me Pleaseeeeee!?
her garden is 200cm * 300cm

the paper is 30cm by 50cm

so 1/6th scale will fit (divide 300/50 = 6,divide 200/30 = 6 (and a bit))

------

area = 2m * 3m = 6sq/m

6sq/m * 5plants per m = 30 plants

30 * 2.50 = $75

Is this a Hobo Spider ? (Tegenaria Agrestis)?

At first , I thought It was a male european garden spider, but a couple things don't match up with that. One, it's leg segments are all one color, not mixed colors like a European Garden Spider. Two, The design on it's amdomen does not have any white dots that is characterisitic of the European Garden Spider. Three, I' cant see its eyes too well, but they look like like 2 rows of 4, a hobo's eyes. I wish i had a microsope to see a better image.

It seems aggressive too. I was laying on the floor playing with my dog and out of the corner of my eye I saw a spider running on the carpet heading right for me. I quickly ran and got a jar and captured it. It almost got away. The hobo spider is around in the PNW.

Derivative and Optimization Masters Come In!?

An architect designs a rectangular garden. The garden is to be surrounded on all sides by a hedge, and a trelissed walkway runs between one pair of opposite sides. The hedge costs $98 per linear foot, and the walkway costs $127 per linear foot. The garden must have a toal of 1000 ft square. What dimensions should the garden have to minimize the cost?

Derivative and Optimization Masters Come In!?
Let l be the length and w be the width of the garden. Then the hedge costs 98(2l+2w) (plus the hedge required to cover the corners, which depends on the width of the hedge, but since that isn't specified, I'll assume the hedge-width is negligable). The walkway, which we shall assume runs across the width of the garden, costs 127w. So the total cost is:

98(2l+2w)+127w

196l + 196w + 127w

196l + 323w

The area of the garden is:

A=lw=1000

So l=1000/w, and the cost of the garden is:

196,000/w + 323w

Taking the derivative and setting it equal to zero:

-196,000/w2+323=0

323w2 - 196,000=0

323w2=196,000

w2=196,000/323

w = √(196,000/323) ≈ 24.633537 feet (we can ignore the negative square root, since that is unphysical).

We note that the second derivative of cost at this point is positive, so this is indeed a minimum. So w=√(196,000/323). Since l=1000/w, l=1000/√(196,000/323) ≈ 40.595064 feet

The total cost of the garden is then:

196l + 323w ≈ $15913.26
Reply:First write a cost function in terms of length and width:

C = 98(2l + 2w) + 127 w

A =lw or l=A/w = 1000/w

C = 196l + 196w + 127 w

C = 196l + 323 w

substituting for l, we get

C = 196000/w + 323w

Take the first derivative

C' = -196000w^-2 +323

Set it equal to 0 and solve

I get approximately 24.6 x 40.6

  • English gardens??? Please help.?

    My fiance and I are using an English garden theme for our wedding and I'm having a little trouble. From the research I've done, there are several different types of English gardens and each has unique characteristics, but the websites I've found only list famous English gardens while not really explaining the quintiscential elements that make up an English style garden. From what I understand there are landscape gardens, formal gardens (which were supposedly modeled after the French and Italian formal gardens), country gardens, and cottage gardens. I could really use some definitive information on this to help us design our theme. If anyone could tell me the difference between the different types of gardens and what flowers/plants make them up I would really appreciate it. We chose this theme because my fiance is English and Scottish and is wearing a kilt for the wedding. We thought an English garden theme would be appropriate also because the reception is in a banquet hall in a park.

    English gardens??? Please help.?
    When I think of English Garden I picture the cottage garden. But there are many kinds as you say, just like many kinds of American gardens. I think you can pick the kind that appeals to you. You might do better at the library where you could get several picture books on the topic and find what appeals to you most.
    Reply:Most people think of a English cottage garden with a mix of flowers arranged in hodge-podge way.

    Conflicting Life/Desire: Need your valuable and informative advice?

    I'm working on pursuing what I want to do with my life. I desire to travel and see the world but not be away so long that I'm disconnected from my family. But it is something I desire. I'm into culture, traveling, discovering, gardening, tea and wine, holistic health %26amp; beauty, design, hands on work, and mroe. I'nm an adventurer and feel a constant void in my soul until I do what I love to do. Thing is, I have two young kids and want to be able to balance my life with their needs. I'm young, bright, passionate, and this is how I want to spend my life but be a mother no matter what. Can you help me with advice, and occupations that can help me acheive this? Also, how easy would it be to get up and leave and move to Greece and open up my own small coffee/wine shop or something? You see, I don't want much as far as material. My happiness is in my family, fufillement of my desires, and my surroundings....any valuable and positive advice?

    Conflicting Life/Desire: Need your valuable and informative advice?
    Couldn't say how easy it would be to pick up and move (although I've done it twice in my life). Do you at least speak the language? Are you married/living with the father of the kids? How does he feel about saying goodbye to all he's known? And if you're not committed to the father, how do you feel about willfully taking his kids and moving halfway around the world with them? Is that really fair to them just so that you can live out YOUR dream?
    Reply:the only thing that would work is to hire a nanny or home tutor. and if you want to go to greece, do it. this new culture will enrichen your kids like no u.s. school can, to be honest. even if you dont get the nanny, just GO.
    Reply:When their is will their is a way.

    Take your kids with you, they can learn greek you could still be mom and open a coffee shop.
    Reply:If you have the ability to do it, you should follow your heart. Children adapt easily to change. If this is your dream and you have the opportunity to pursue it, then don't hold back and give it your all.
